Van Plunges Off Overpass On Bronx River Parkway In Westchester
Traffic was tied up on the Bronx River Parkway during Thursday’s morning commute when a van flew off the Cross County overpass in Yonkers, coming to a crashing half below. The driver of a van was hospitalized with minor injuries after he was driving up the westbound ramp of the Cross County Parkway shortly before 6:30 a.m. when he lost control on the curved roadway, went through the guardrail, off the edge and landed in the median of the Bronx River Parkway, police said. Traffic Alert Issued As Route 59 Work Starts
Motorists planning on traveling on Route 59 in Easton can expect slight delays in the area as crews begin efforts to replace the guardrail system and cut trees for several days. The Connecticut Department of Transportation will begin replacing the guardrail daily from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Monday, April 16, during which time, there are expected to be delays along different parts of Route 59. Heavy Rain, Strong Winds, Downed Trees Snarl Morning Commute
Periods of heavy rain, combined with strong winds, resulted in delays throughout Fairfield County during the Monday morning commute with downed trees also being reported. Downed trees closed two roads in Greenwich: Davis Avenue at Wilbur Peck Court and Glenville Road closed between Midwood Road and Valley Drive. Motorists planning on traveling through Darien can expect delays and detours as contracting crews from Eversource kick off a “significant natural gas expansion project.” The Darien Police Department issued an alert on Thursday, warning that beginning next week, several roadways are expected to see lane closures and motorists can expect delays in the area as the project begins, which is expected to last several months. Crash On Merritt Causes Gridlock During Evening Commute
This story has been updated. A crash that initially took out the left lane caused gridlock on a stretch of the Merritt Parkway in Fairfield County during much of the Monday evening commute. The northbound crash occurred between North Street (Exit 31) and Den Road (Exit 33), with stop-and-go delays to Lake Avenue (Exit 29). More Than 100 New Parking Spaces Announced At East Norwalk Train Station
Spring has sprung in Norwalk, and the local Parking Authority has a special gift for Fairfield County commuters. The Norwalk Parking Authority announced on Monday that it has entered into a temporary arrangement with the state regarding the eastbound side of the East Norwalk Train Station, allowing for 117 additional daily parking spaces. On or about April 1, the City of Danbury will begin replacing the Reservoir Street bridge that crosses over the creek near the Bethel town line. During construction, traffic will be limited to one lane. Portable signals will be installed to control traffic. All Lanes Reopen On I-84 Following Truck Fire
This story has been updated. All lanes have reopened Friday afternoon following a truck fire on a stretch of I-84 that initially closed two lanes in Danbury. The incident, on the westbound side between Exit 5 and Exit 6, was reported around 11 a.m. One of the lanes had reopened by 12:30 p.m. Delays of up to an hour occurred at the time of the incident reported.
