There is a 20 percent chance of light freezing rain or drizzle to develop early Monday with temperatures plunging into the mid-20s, the weather service warned.

Any rain will freeze on untreated surfaces, making for icy travel conditions, especially on Monday morning, the National Weather Service said.

The icing threat is expected to gradually end from south to north Monday afternoon as temperatures slowly rise into the low 40s. There is a 40 percent chance of a cold rain across Fairfield County in the afternoon, increasing to an 80 percent chance by Monday evening.

Tuesday, the start of the workweek, will start out rainy, with temperatures rising into the low 50s throughout the day.
