The task force, a collaborative effort between the Connecticut State Police and the Bridgeport Police, executed a search warrant at 1174 Capitol Ave. in Bridgeport after receiving information that the gang members, a subset of the "Bloods" gang, were selling drugs from the residence and hiding guns, said state police.

According to state police, as task force members were approaching the house, Bryan Yang, 21, of Bridgeport, was seen attempting to enter his car. After detectives identified themselves, Yang pulled a semi-automatic handgun from his waistband, state police said. Officers were able to gain control of Yang and the gun before he could use the weapon, state police said.

The weapon was fully loaded with a high-capacity magazine, police said. Yang does not have a license to carry or own a gun, police said.

During a search of the home, detectives found another handgun on a table in the upstairs attic room that is rented by Miguel Maldonado, 21, of Bridgeport, state police said. That weapon had been reported stolen during a Bridgeport burglary.

In addition, officers also found a small marijuana-growing business and evidence that Maldonado was packaging the drug for sale, state police said. They also found more than 200 rounds of ammunition.

Yang was charged with carrying a pistol without a permit, illegal transfer of a firearm, possession of a high-capacity magazine, and weapons in a motor vehicle. He was held on $100,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 26.

Maldonado was charged with illegal transfer of a firearm, possession of a stolen gun, operating a drug factory, illegal cultivation of marijuana, possession with intent to sell, possession of a controlled substance, and possession with intent to sell within 1,500 feet of a school. He was held on $100,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 26.

The investigation is part special operation increasing the number of state troopers focused on targeting gang violence in Bridgeport in conjunction with the Bridgeport Police Department after a rash of summer shootings.
