The DEA gave police in Shelton an assist on Friday afternoon, busting up an alleged heroin-selling operation out of a local home following a lengthy investigation by detectives with the Shelton Police Department.
Investigators with the Shelton Police Department received a quality of life issue in Shelton on Far Horizons Drive, leading to an investigation into the residence and its occupants.
On Friday, a Shelton police spokesperson obtained a search warrant regarding the residence, and executed the search warrant with the assistance of members of the DEA.
Inside the residence, police said that officers made contact with the occupants of the home, Robert Murphy, Jr., 54 and Michael Merritt, 39, and further investigation into the residence led to the seizure of heroin and packaging materials.
Both men were arrested at the scene. Murphy was charged with illegal possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and sale of narcotics. Merritt was charged with illegal possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Following arraignment, Murphy and Merritt were both released on $5,000 bail. They are due back in Derby Superior Court on April 6 to answer the charges.
