In March 2017, the girl told officers at the Shelton Police Youth Bureau that she met Christopher Galvin in an online chat room in 2013 when she was 13 years old, police said.

Galvin told her he was 22 and the two became friends and, over time, he began driving to Shelton to meet the girl, police said.

On Feb. 17, 2017, Galvin and the juvenile were parked in his car and she fell asleep.

Galvin sexually assaulted the girl and she woke up and began to scream, police said.

Galvin continued to e-mail and text the girl to justify his actions even after he learned she had made a complaint to police.

On Jan. 16, Shelton officers arrested Galvin and he was charged with fourth-degree sexual assault and second-degree harassment, police said.

He was released on a $5,000 bond and appeared in court on Wednesday.

Additional arrests are expected in this case.
