A fatal tractor-trailer crash caused massive delays on a southbound stretch of I-95 for hours Tuesday morning even though the rig landed off the highway and down an embankment, according to the Connecticut State Police.
The crash took place around 5:35 a.m. just north of Exit 89, closing the entire highway for a short while. Currently, the left lane is closed for repair of a guardrail, state police said.
According to police, the tractor-trailer went off the highway, through the guardrail, crossed over the highway to the left and down an embankment before coming to rest on Cow Hill Road.
"It's quite a large scene and the highway could be backed up for a while with the rain and waiting for the guardrail to be repaired," a state police spokeswoman said.
