FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- Connecticut State Police issued hundreds of tickets and responded to more than 400 accidents over the course of the holiday weekend, though there were fewer incidents this year than over a similar period in 2016.

State police supplemented the normal patrol force with additional state troopers over the holiday weekend. They particularly focused on enforcing motor vehicle laws and reducing the number of DUIs, crashes and injury-producing accidents on interstates, state roads and local highways.

Between 12:01 a.m. on Friday and 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday, state police identified 347 speeding violations, 11 seatbelt violations, 777 moving violations, and 24 drunken driving arrests.

There were 406 accidents over this time period, including 47 accidents with injury. There were no fatal accidents.

State police performed 354 motorists assists, and there were a total of 5,421 calls for service.

These stats are down compared to a similar period of time last year. Between 12:01 a.m. on Dec. 22, 2016 and 11:59 p.m. on Dec. 26, 2016, Connecticut State Police saw 579 speeding violations, 50 seatbelt violations, and 1,596 moving violations. They made 47 DUI arrests during that time period. There were 528 accidents, including 58 with injury. One accident involved serious injury, and four involved fatalities. They assisted 436 motorists, and responded to a total of 8,046 calls.
