BRIDGEPORT, Conn. -- A 54-year-old Bridgeport man is facing animal cruelty charges after police said officers rescued four puppies from a parked car in the heat on Main Street in Bridgeport, the Connecticut Post says.

Onnie Canady told police he had recently been released from prison, the Post said.

Police worked to get into the car and found the puppies were dehydrated, the Post said. After more than 25 minutes, the man returned to the car with a 2-year-old girl, the Post reports.
