Nasir Hargett, of Bridgeport, was charged with murder in connection with the death of Davon Robertson, 24, who was shot Monday afternoon in the area of Pearl and Brooks streets, police said.

“Detectives worked the case non-stop and made an arrest within 24 hours. It was outstanding work,” said Police Chief Joseph L. Gaudett. “Our officers are committed to keeping our residents safe every day. They also are equally committed to bringing people to justice when they commit violence in our community.

“There is no place in our community for anyone who would pick up a gun to settle a dispute.”

Hargett was held on $1 million bond.

Lt. Christopher LaMaine credited the arrest to “incredible work by the detectives who worked on this case,” which was led by Detective Ada Curet with assistance from Detectives Paul Ortiz, Robert Winkler, Martin Heanue and Dave Garcia as well as members of the Identification Unit.

The victim got into an altercation with a group of young males at East Main Street and Pearl on Monday, police said. One of the young men followed the victim for about a block and fired several shots, police said.

The victim was struck and transported to Bridgeport Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said.
