The victim was identified as Khalil Diaz, 17, according to Av Harris, director of communication for the city of Bridgeport. The shooting happened at about noon at 305 Madison Ave., he said. Police believe it was in retaliation for a shooting last year that Diaz was suspected of being involved in, Harris said.

A suspect was in custody just minutes after Diaz was killed Friday while sitting in a car, the Post aid.

Two youth bureau detectives witnessed Friday's shooting and apprehended the unidentified suspect, the weapon and discarded clothing after a brief chase, police told the Connecticut Post.

Diaz, suspected of being the getaway driver, was found not guilty in February in the August 2014 fatal shooting of Ryan Hernandez, 21, the Post said. The suspected shooter, 17-year-old Fabian “Fab” Francis, was also found not guilty, the Post said.

Friday's shooting death was the second homicide of the year in Bridgeport.

On Feb. 11, Javoni Patton was shot to death in what appeared to be a robbery at Stratford and Connecticut avenues in the city's East End near the Stratford border. He had been shot several times and was found in the road, with his car nearby, with the driver’s door open and personal items scattered.

Bernard Brandon, 32, of Bridgeport was arrested April 22 by Bridgeport police and U.S. marshals and charged with murder and criminal possession of a firearm in the case. Brandon and his girlfriend were found hiding in the Bridgeport apartment of a disabled man. The girlfriend, 38-year-old Ebony Curtis, was charged with hindering prosecution.
