BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – Irene Broadnax Fountain, of Bridgeport, died Saturday, Sept. 12. She was 94.
She was born on Dec. 16, 1920, in Spray, N.C., to Cindy Harris and Dennis Broadnax.
Fountain was one of the founders of the Fountain of Youth Cathedral Inc.
She was predeceased by her parents; her husband, King; three sons, Clyde, Bishop Franklin D. and Norman; and two daughters, JoAnne F. Neri and Betty F. Best.
Fountain is survived by six daughters; Zorene F. Meekins, Erma F. Johnson and husband Alvin, Yvette F. Drummond, Sharon F. Whitmore, Jacqueline F. Campbell and Madeira F. Walker and her husband, Mark; four sons, Alvestico and wife Wanda, Bishop Venoal and wife Sandra, Robert L., and Donald and wife Rita; and two brothers, David and Gregory Broadnax.
Visiting hours are Friday, Sept. 18, from 4-8 p.m. at Lester Gee Funeral Home, 1390 Fairfield Ave., Bridgeport, and Saturday, Sept. 19, from 9-11 a.m. at Cathedral of the Holy Spirit, 729 Union Ave., Bridgeport, with services to follow.
Interment will follow at Mountain Grove Cemetery.
