The downtown library is expected to reopen Wednesday, Jan. 3, with regular business hours.

On Tuesday, the library at 925 Broad St. had no water and, therefore, no heat due to the water main break, the city said.

Due to the lack of water, no bathroom facilities were available. The temperature inside the building was about 58 degrees, the city said. The library was also being used a warming center as outside temperatures dipped into the single digits overnight and rose only to about 20 degrees during the daytime.

John Ricci, the city's head of public facilities, visited the building and assessed the situation with a representative from Aquarion Water Co.

On the advice of the City's Labor Relations Department, all Burroughs-Saden staff members were sent home. A public facilities staff member and Aquarion repairmen were on the scene and working to repair the problem.

Other locations of the Bridgeport Library are open their usual hours.
