Y's Men To Hear About Westport's Business Climate From Chamber Chief

WESTPORT, Conn. — The Y's Men will get an insider's look at the current business climate in town as the head of the Westport Weston Chamber of Commerce speaks at the group's next meeting.

Matthew Mandell, the chamber's executive director, will be speaking at 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 12, at the Saugatuck Congregational Church.

He will also explain what the chamber has been up to and what future issues might affect the town. He will also announce a new photo contest for the cover of the new Visitor’s Guide as well as tout a river cruise on the Danube that chambers in the area are offering.

Mandell will mark three years at the helm of the chamber in April. In that time, he has doubled membership and introduced many new programs and events, such as the highly acclaimed Westport Dog Festival. He said his goal is to bring “Commerce and Community Together.”

Y's Men of Westport/Weston, an organization of about 400 retired and semi-retired men, is the largest group of its kind in Fairfield County. Members are from diverse professional backgrounds including executives from major corporations; businessmen; advertising, public relations, marketing and media executives; physicians; computer experts; airline pilots; government officials; artists; and musicians.

Every week, on Thursday at 10 a.m. from September through May, members can attend a meeting at the Saugatuck Congregational Church and hear prominent individuals share their experiences. The speakers include national and state legislators, historians, authors, financial experts, film makers and legal and medical professionals.
