Last year, the club awarded grants to 31 nonprofit organizations directly supporting individuals residing in Westport and surrounding communities from Norwalk to Bridgeport.

Rotary members were actively involved in the programs and activities of each recipient.

"Our members offer their talent, time and resources to assist local social services organizations here and in countries around the world," said Gene Cederbaum, chair of the Committee and a local attorney.

"Recipients last year included organizations serving children and young adults, providing housing for the homeless, meeting the transportation needs of seniors, assisting those with learning disabilities, coping with chronic illnesses, recovering from cancer or in recovery following surgery, and those in need of fuel assistance," Cederbaum said.

Grants ranging from $500 to $2,500 are awarded primarily for program needs rather than administrative or overhead expenses.

“Increasingly, year after year, nonprofits are called upon to assist in so many areas that the need for funding continues to grow. In this environment Sunrise Rotary is, unfortunately, unable to meet the needs of some very deserving organizations,“ Cederbaum said.

To request an application, organizations should e-mail sunrisecharitablegiving@gmail.com.

They will be directed to a link to the online application form and to instructions for its completion. All applications are to be submitted electronically and must be received, with all supporting documentation, by March 10.

Following committee review each applicant will be notified of their award by mid-May.
