And just in the nick of time.
The harsh winter has made for a bumpy ride on city streets. In response, the city once again will lease a state-of-the-art machine, dubbed “The Pothole Killer,” for a month of repairs that should ease motorists’ nerves — and suspensions — soon.
“The Pothole Killers use an innovative system that is quicker, safer and more environmentally friendly than traditional efforts,” said Bridgeport Mayor Joe Ganim. “This technique saves Bridgeport and taxpayers significant amounts of time, money and resources.”
Invented by Pennsylvania-based Patch Management, Inc., The Pothole Killer allows its operator to control a hydraulic boom, clearing the offending pothole of debris and applying a liquid asphalt to fill and seal it The machine then tops it off with a dry aggregate coating made of recycled tires.
The process takes about 90 seconds and the repaired roadway is immediately ready for traffic.
Bridgeport’s Department of Public Facilities is making it their priority to repair potholes throughout the city, Ganim said.
The city currently owns three machines that repair the potholes and will lease ‘The Pothole Killer’ for one month.
Bridgeport has begun filling in potholes on main roads and will continue with emergency roads. Secondary roads on hospital routes will be repaired followed by all other secondary roads.
Once potholes are repaired, City sweepers will be deployed every ten days to help clear the gravel that might remain.
