Stroke Support, Medicaid Help Offered By Bridgeport Hospital

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. -- Bridgeport Hospital will offer a variety of classes, screenings, services and support groups during November.

Events will be held at sites in Bridgeport, Shelton, Stratford, Fairfield and Trumbull. 

Here is a list of scheduled events:

A confidential financial assistance service is open to patients and families with questions about their hospital bills during regular business hours at the hospital. 

A financial counselor will review billing issues and go over payment assistance options, including eligibility for free or discounted care. Help applying for Medicaid and other state assistance programs is offered. Call 203-384-3449 for an appointment.

Blood pressure screenings within the community take place at the Fairfield Senior Center, 100 Mona Terrace, Monday, Nov. 7 and 21, 9:30-11:30 a.m.;  Stratford Baldwin Center, 1000 W. Broad St., Monday, Nov. 14, 9:30-11:30 a.m.; Shelton Senior Center, 81 Wheeler St., Monday, Nov. 28, noon-2 p.m. For information, call 888-357-2396

Breastfeeding basics are offered Saturday, Nov. 12, from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Park Avenue Medical Center, 5520 Park Ave., Trumbull. To register, call 888-357-2396 or visit www.bridgeporthospital.org/events

 Childbirth preparation is set for Saturday, Nov. 5, from 9:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m., and Saturday, Nov. 12, from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. at Park Avenue Medical Center, 5520 Park Ave., Trumbull. The class is offered as a one-day class or four 2 ½-hour classes. To register, call 888-357-2396 or visit www.bridgeporthospital.org/events. 

Expectant parent classes and tours are offered at the hospital Thursdays, Nov. 3, 10 and 17, 6-7 p.m. Meet in the main lobby at the hospital, 267 Grant St. This is a guided tour of birthing rooms, well-baby nursery, newborn intensive care unit and postpartum units. 

Following the tour, from 7:15-8:15 p.m., there will be an American Heart Association Infant CPR Anytime! class. It is for families, friends and others who care for infants to learn the core skills of infant CPR and relief of choking. Details and registration are available immediately following the parent tours.
