As peak driving season rapidly approaches, the average gas price in Connecticut has topped $3 per gallon for the first time since 2014.

Connecticut gas prices reached an average of $3.01 per gallon on Friday, according to AAA, 26 cents higher than a month ago and 51 cents higher than a year ago. The national average per gallon also continues to rise, peaking at $2.86, compared to an average of $2.33 at this time last year.

The last time prices reached this peak in Connecticut was on Dec. 14, 2014, when the prices were on the downslide following a high of $3.98 in July of the same year before dropping. The new high comes two weeks before Memorial Day, the unofficial kickoff of the summer driving season.

Connecticut now has the 10th highest average price per gallon in the nation, with no relief in sight.

The rise comes in the wake of President Donald Trump’s decision to withdraw the United States from the Iran nuclear deal earlier this week.

According to AAA, “the US’s recent decision to re-impose economic sanctions on Iran and withdraw from the 2015 Iran Nuclear Deal is bringing on a variety of global impacts. In the US, one of the largest potential impacts may be increased crude oil prices, which is presently at $70 a barrel. This in turn will lead to increased gas prices later this summer because greater consumer demand is also driving prices up as we approach the summer drive season.”
