FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. — A potential start-of-spring snowstorm could bring up to 6 inches of snow to Fairfield County late Sunday into Monday morning, according to the National Weather Service.

Friday will see a chance of scattered showers and temps in the 50s, followed by a sunny but cooler Saturday with high temperatures in the upper 40s. But Sunday has the potential for a major storm — just in time for the first day of spring — that could continue into the daytime on Monday.

Significant snow accumulation is possible in the nor'easter. The snow could mix with rain, especially along the coast, for periods of time. The storm could begin as early as the afternoon, the National Weather Service said.

The storm, which is moving toward the Northeast from the South, is likely to bring accumulating snow from the I-95 corridor to part of the Appalachians, with the heaviest snow across New England, according to AccuWeather.com.

The National Weather Service said the coastal low could bring at least 6 inches of snow the tri-state area from Sunday into Monday.

The exact track of the storm is still not clear, and accumulation projections could change.
