BRIDGEPORT, Conn. -- The University of Bridgeport Model United Nations team recently won four awards, including the highest prize given to a participating group, at the National Model United Nations Europe Conference in Olomouc, Czech Republic.
Student delegates Simon Alejandro Arias, Khrystian Pereira, Bianca Diaz, and Youssef Agiez represented the Czech Republic in the General Assembly Plenary and United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, submitting position papers on topics ranging from “International Cooperation Against Terrorism” to “The Protection of UNESCO Sites in Conflict Zones.”
They were advised by Steve Hess during their preparations for the conference and the event. Hess is an assistant professor of political science in UB’s College of Public and International Affairs.
The team won the Outstanding Delegate Award, the Outstanding Position Paper Award and the Outstanding Delegation Award. It also was “surprised to receive an award for ‘Good Citizenship’ based upon our additional service and volunteering at the conference,” Hess said.
