The Bridgeport Public Education Fund has been celebrating and honoring teachers in this way in the city's public schools for 22 years, according to the announcement.
The following "Outstanding Teachers" will receive a crystal Tiffany apple paperweight, and $1,000 to be used for professional development enhancements and or enrichment for their classroom:
- Christine Blaszczynski – Computer literacy coach at High Horizons Magnet School
- Donald Brelsford - General music teacher at Hallen School
- Kara DeFilippo – Pre-K teacher at Bryant School
- Wendy Milson – seventh and eighth grade math teacher at John Winthrop School
- Tavares Perkins – fourth grade teacher at Classical Studies Magnet Academy
- Alisha Price – Team leader for fifth and sixth grade teachers at Hallen School
- Bianca Rivera – third grade teacher at Roosevelt School
- Rebekah Tomlinson – Kindergarten teacher at Columbia School
The following person will receive the Elizabeth M. Pfriem Civic Award, which is presented to an outstanding civic leader who is making a profound difference in education. This recipient is presented with a hand-crafted solid gold apple lapel pin:
- Neil Salonen – President of the University of Bridgeport
The following person will receive the George Bellinger Leadership Award, which is presented to an outstanding principal that has been nominated by her peers. The recipient is given a check for $1,000:
- Michele Matera, Principal of Anna Baum Skane Center.
The following teachers receive $25,000 over a four-year period and are part of the Roundtable Advisory. They are being presented with he Beard Excellence in Education Award, sponsored by the Fairfield County Community Foundation:
- Brianne Bresky – History teacher at the Bridgeport Regional Military Academy
- Alicia Robinson – General Music and Arts Integration teachers at Roosevelt School
- Eve Sarra – Math and Computer science teacher at Central high School
