Murphy Speaks On Conservation At Bridgeport's Park City Magnet School

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. -- U.S. Sen. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) visited Park City Magnet School Tuesday to speak with third- through eighth-graders about the importance of conservation and science education.

Murphy then welcomed and introduced the National Geographic’s TV personality and cat capture specialist, Boone Smith, who spoke about his experiences capturing and collaring wildlife.

During the event, Murphy and Smith participated in a question-and-answer session with the students. As a member of the Bicameral Task Force on Climate Change, Murphy has led several efforts – like the Lower Farmington River and Salmon Brook Wild and Scenic River Act and the bipartisan Super Pollutants Act – pushing for strong and proactive environmental policies that combat climate change, curb pollution, invest in renewable energy and promote sustainable development solutions.

“As a teenager, I decided to get involved in government because I cared about the environment and I wanted my elected leaders to care about it too,” Murphy said. “Today’s event served as an important reminder to the kids that we all have a role to play in protecting wild animals, forests, and earth’s other natural resources, and I hope that it triggered a real interest for many of them.”
