Fairfield County High Schools Ranked Among Best In Connecticut

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- Most of the high schools in Fairfield County got high marks in a new ranking of the best high schools in the state and country by Niche.com.

New Canaan was ranked the best school in the state in the 2018 Best Public High Schools in Connecticut list compiled by Niche, a website for researching schools. The ranking was based on analysis of data from the U.S. Department of Education, including state test scores, college readiness, graduation rates, and SAT/ACT scores, as well as reviews from students and parents.

The top six schools in the state were all from Fairfield County and included Staples High School, Greenwich High School, Darien High School, Weston High School and Wilton High School. In addition to ranking top in the state, New Canaan was also named No. 173 in the country. In all, six Fairfield County high schools were named among the top 500 in the country.

Here is how Fairfield County's top high schools ranked in the state:

  • New Canaan High School ranked No. 1 in Connecticut and No. 173 nationally
  • Staples High School in Westport ranked No. 2 in Connecticut and No. 176 nationally
  • Greenwich High School ranked No. 3 in Connecticut and No. 179 nationally
  • Darien High School ranked No. 4 in Connecticut and No. 269 nationally
  • Weston High School ranked No. 5 in Connecticut and No. 278 nationally
  • Wilton High School ranked No. 6 in Connecticut and No. 320 nationally
  • Ridgefield High School ranked No. 11 in Connecticut
  • Joel Barlow High School in Redding ranked No. 14 in Connecticut
  • Fairfield Warde High School ranked No. 15 in Connecticut
  • Fairfield Ludlowe High School ranked No. 18 in Connecticut
  • Masuk High School in Monroe ranked No. 19 in Connecticut
  • Trumbull High School ranked No. 20 in Connecticut
  • Newtown High School ranked No. 22 in Connecticut
  • Bethel High School ranked No. 37 in Connecticut
  • Brookfield High School ranked No. 47 in Connecticut
  • Westhill High School in Stamford ranked No. 63 in Connecticut
  • Shelton High School ranked No. 81 in Connecticut
  • Brien McMahon High School in Norwalk ranked No. 86 in Connecticut
  • Danbury High School ranked No. 100 in Connecticut
  • Stratford High School ranked No. 108 in Connecticut
  • Bunnell High School in Stratford ranked No. 111 in Connecticut

The top 113 schools in the state received grades between an A+ and a B. All schools that received grades below a B were not ranked numerically. New Fairfield High School, Stamford High School and Norwalk High School each received a B minus grade.

Of Bridgeport's three high schools, Central High School received a C minus, while Harding High School received a D and Bassick High School received a D minus.
