FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- Several congressmen, including Connecticut's Jim Himes, walked off of the House floor as Speaker Paul Ryan called for a moment of silence to honor the victims of the Orlando shooting, according to Roll Call.
Himes was joined by John Larson and Joe Courtney of Connecticut, and Peter Welch of Vermont, all Democrats, on the walkout, Roll Call said.
Himes tweeted: "I will not attend one more"Moment of Silence" on the Floor. Our silence does not honor the victims, it mocks them."
Following the moment of silence, other members of congress began shouting at the speaker. One unidentified woman reportedly screamed "Now do something." Others screamed "Where's the bill?" in reference to legislation that would ban people on the Terrorist Screening Center's no-fly list from purchasing firearms, Roll Call reported.
