Police said that on April 16, 2016, Shivam Patel, 23, of East Haven was driving the wrong direction on I-95 northbound when he crashed head-on into another car near exit 36 in Milford. Both Patel and the other driver, 24-year-old Terell Wilson of Norwich, were seriously injured and taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital.

Wilson died about three weeks later from his injuries.

Police determined that Patel was at fault for the accident and issued a warrant for his arrest. He turned himself in to state police on Friday.

Patel was charged with reckless driving, operating under the influence, driving the wrong way on a divided highway, second-degree manslaughter and first-degree reckless endangerment. He was released on a $50,000 bond and will appear in court April 12.
