The Fairfield Fire Department was dispatched at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 29, to the southbound Merritt Parkway between exits 46 and 47 on a report of a motor vehicle accident with injuries.

When Fairfield Fire Engine 3 arrived, firefighters found two cars had rolled over and were resting on their roofs along the roadway.

”Due to the damage and location of the accident, the occupants were very fortunate that their injuries appear to be non-life threatening and that they were not trapped inside the vehicles,“ Assistant Fire Chief Scott Bisson said.

Fire department personnel established a safety zone, assessed all occupants of the cars for injuries, and identified two people who required medical care, Bisson said.

AMR ambulance transported both victims to area hospitals.

A precautionary hose line was deployed to protect against a possible fire.

Fairfield fire officials remained on the scene until the vehicles were removed due to environmental hazards.

One lane of the highway was closed  during most of the incident, but both lanes were shut down completely for about 10 minutes to remove the vehicles, he said.

The accident scene was turned over to the Connecticut State Police for investigation.

The last Fairfield Fire Department unit cleared the scene at 2:07 p.m..
