Police told the Connecticut Post that they were called to the Stop & Shop on Main Street on Monday afternoon after receiving reports of a young girl locked in a pickup truck. When officers arrived, they met a woman, who said she saw the young girl banging on the window, according to the Connecticut Post.
When officers went to the truck, they saw the owner, 42-year-old Daniel O'Brien, approaching, and he told them that he had locked his 5-year-old daughter in the truck with the dog because she did not want to go into the store, according to the Connecticut Post. He said he had left the windows cracked open, the Connecticut Post reported.
The temperature at the time was 81 degrees, according to the Connecticut Post. Medics examined the girl and the case was referred to the Department of Children and Families, the Connecticut Post reported. O'Brien was charged with risk of injury to a child and released on $2,000 bond, according to the Post.
