BRIDGEPORT, Conn. -- Bridgeport police are asking for help in locating the suspect in a brazen daytime shooting near a city park Sunday.
The shooting occurred within yards of a children’s playground at Success Park off Granfield Avenue around 3:30 p.m., police said.
Police released a video showing the victim, a young man, as he approaches a parking lot there.
He waves at someone out of camera range, then stops and turns, raising his arms slightly. Another man walks straight at him brandishing a gun.
The suspect, described as a heavy-set black male wearing a white T-shirt and dark shorts, raises his arm and appears to fire several times at the first man.
The victim, limping, flees towards the park and the suspect follows him.
The shooter, suddenly noticing that a car is pulling out of a parking spot and that another man is approaching from the left, turns and walks swiftly, but calmly, away.
Meanwhile, at least five other people, some of whom were in their cars when the shooting occurred, enter the scene. One young woman, clad in a black tank top and shorts, sprints across the lot.
Police did not say what the victim’s condition was, but media reports said he had been shot in the leg.
The lot was located near Granfield's intersection with Carnegie Avenue.
Police are asking anyone with any information about the incident to call Det. M. Cantrell at (203) 581-5240..
