Suspect Charged With Murder In 2010 Homicide Near Bridgeport Playground

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – A 32-year-old man was arrested Friday morning and charged with murder in the shooting death of another man on a playground in Bridgeport nearly five years ago, police said.

Billy Ray "BJ" Jones was charged with murder in connection with the June 21, 2010, homicide of Michael Williams, 29. Williams was shot in the playground area behind Building 4 of the Greene Homes in Bridgeport.

“I would like to thank the tireless effort of the Bridgeport Police Department and especially Detective Heitor Teixeira to bring this person to justice,” said Police Chief Joseph L. Gaudett Jr. “I’m grateful for their hard work and grateful that our department could provide justice for the victim and his family.”

Jones was also charged with criminal possession of a firearm, and carrying pistol without permit. He is currently incarcerated on other charges and was brought to court, where the warrant was served. Bond was set at $1 million.
