Around 8:40 p.m., May 11, 2016, Shelton police received several 911 calls about a pedestrian being struck by a vehicle in the intersection of Howe Avenue and Hill Street. The car fled the scene south on Howe Avenue, witnesses told police.

The victim, Teresa Glossy, 54, of Shelton, was transported to St. Vincent’s Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead, police said.

The Shelton Police Traffic Division Reconstruction Team and Shelton detectives determined William Donofrio, of Round Hill Road, was driving the Ford Taurus involved in the crash, police said. The investigation revealed that Donofrio cleaned and hid the car immediately after the incident, police said.

On March 9, Donofrio was charged with evading responsibility, tampering with physical evidence and failure to exercise due care to avoid colliding with a pedestrian, police said.

He posted a $15,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on March 17.
