BRIDGEPORT, Conn. -- A pair of crashes in Bridgeport Monday left one person dead and sent three other people to the hospital, according to police.
David Anthony Anderson, 22, of Seymour was killed in an accident near the intersection of Barnum Avenue and Pembroke Street. Anderson was traveling west on Barnum Avenue when his SUV was struck by a Saturn traveling south on Pembroke Street, which was operated by a 20-year-old man from Bridgeport, according to police reports.
The SUV rolled over directly in front of a Honda Civic traveling east on Barnum Avenue, causing minor damage, police said. The driver of the Civic, a 25-year-old Stamford man, was uninjured, police said. The SUV came to a rest in front of 510 Barnum Ave., causing heavy damage to a metal fence.
Police said the driver of the Saturn fled, but was detained a short time later. The driver was treated at Bridgeport Hospital and later released. No charges have been filed as the case remains under investigation, police said.
In a separate crash, a 66-year-old Bridgeport man was driving south on Seaview Avenue when he drifted onto the sidewalk, striking two utility poles, police said. He then encroached into the northbound land and crashed head-on into another car driven by a 28-year-old Bridgeport man, according to police reports.
Both drivers were taken to Bridgeport Hospital with critical injuries.
