Hector Correa, 34, of Arctic Street, Bridgeport, told officers he planned to sell the jewelry on the street to pay for diapers for his children, police said.

Just before noon, a loss prevention officer noticed Correa in the store selecting jewelry and putting it in his pocket before leaving the store, police said.

When Correa saw security waiting for him in the parking lot, officers said he ran back into the store, where he was detained.

Correa was charged with sixth-degree larceny. He was released on a promise to appear in court on Sept. 26.
