BRIDGEPORT, Conn. -- Police with dogs are scouring the area for a Stratford man who managed to slip away from police custody while being transported to court, according to the ctpost.com.
Although police did not return emails, sources confirmed that Nelson Vega, 29, was at large and was now the target of a manhunt, reported the ctpost.com.
Vega, who was being held on burglary and larceny charges, was scheduled to be arraigned in the Golden Hill Street courthouse this morning, reported the ctpost.com.
Police sources said Vega was chained to a number of other prisoners and was being escorted by several unarmed civilians, to a van when he complained that his handcuffs were too tight. The handcuffs were loosened and then Vega somehow managed to distract the escorts. When their backs were turned he slipped out of the handcuffs and slipped away unnoticed, the sources told the ctpost.com.
