Police Identify 2 Victims In Shooting Near Bridgeport Day Care

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. -- The two victims who suffered serious injuries in a double shooting at 10 a.m. Monday near The Greens housing complex and a day care center have been identified by Bridgeport police.

Russell Gillchrist, 17, and Terence Gallimore, 24, both of Bridgeport, were both seriously wounded, police said.

Gillchrist was transported to Saint Vincent’s Medical Center in a police car, and Gallimore was transported to Bridgeport Hospital in a privately owned vehicle, police said. Both men are expected to survive, police said.

“Right now our primary concern is the health of the victims," said Bridgeport police spokesman William Kaempffer. “That being said, police are conducting an open an active investigation and expect to make arrests in this case.”

Officers responded to a report of gunshots on Highland Avenue near the intersection of Harral Avenue outside The Greens complex at about 10 a.m., police said. They found Gillchrist, who had been shot in the lower abdomen, police said.

Witnesses reported hearing six to 10 gunshots in the area. The location of the double shooting was only a few doors from the Bulls Head Hollow Child Day Care Center, which is located in the Wheeler Building.

Officials at the day care put the facility on lockdown until police told them that the area had been secured.

Gallimore told officers that he had been shot at a different location but police received no reports of gunfire in that area, police said.

Kaempffer said detectives were reviewing statements from the victims and witnesses as evidence was recovered at the scene.

“We’re exploring all options,” said Lt. Christopher LaMaine. “The investigation is in its early stages.”
