Members of the Danbury Police Department's Special Investigations Division, along with a federal law enforcement official, were conducting surveillance of the Brookside Condominium complex on Monday afternoon after receiving reports of drug sales going on in the parking lot. Police had learned that someone in a gray Volvo was selling drugs from his car, police said.
At around 1 p.m. the investigators saw the gray Volvo enter the lot and park. The two people in the car sat there for about 20 minutes without getting out before a small white car came up and parked next to the Volvo. Police said that they saw the driver of the white car get out, approach the Volvo, and buy drugs from the driver. Police then moved in and detained all three.
Police identified the two people in the Volvo as 22-year-old Aaron Batista of Waterbury and 23-year-old Alec Buday of Bridgeport. They both had a substantial amount of heroin and marijuana on them, police said. The driver of the white car was identified as 36-year-old Marc Vachovetz of Danbury.
Vachovetz, who was purchasing heroin from the two, was found to be in possession of about 20 glassine packets containing heroin, police said. He was released at the scene on a promise to appear in court.
Batista was charged with multiple drug offenses, including possession of narcotics, possession of a controlled substance, possession of more than one ounce of narcotics with intent to sell, possession of a controlled substance within 1,500 feet of a school, sales of narcotics, possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell, possession of drug paraphernalia within 1,500 feet of a school, and operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license. He was held on a $100,000 bond.
Buday was also charged with multiple drug offenses, including possession of narcotics, possession of a controlled substance, possession of narcotics with intent to sell, possession of a controlled substance within 1,500 feet of a school, possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell within 1,500 feet of a school, and possession of drug paraphernalia within 1,500 feet of a school. He was held on a $100,000 bond.
