Under the supervision of the State of Connecticut Firearms Trafficking Policy Board, the Norwalk Police Department collaborated with the Connecticut State Police and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives New Haven office in “Operation Surge.”

The objective of this operation was to address street-level gun violence, illegal gun possession and trafficking. Due to the nexus between street level drug dealing by known gang members and gun violence, a main focus of this operation was to address street level drug dealing.

Based on intelligence and information from various sources, investigators focused their efforts on these areas and the offenders involved. The Norwalk Police Street Crimes suppression unit and Norwalk Police Detective Bureau also assisted with intelligence gathering and analysis.

“Operation Surge” commenced July 1 and ended Sept. 1. However, many of the investigations continued into middle of October. As a result of “Operation Surge,” 77 arrests were made for a variety of violations. Of those arrests, 16 were for sale of narcotics.

Nineteen search warrants were executed in the City of Norwalk and the City of Bridgeport where narcotics sales were suspected.

As a result of these search warrants, 14 people were arrested for possession of narcotics. Twelve firearms have been seized in the City of Norwalk during the operation. There are a small group of suspects being sought on active arrest warrants related to the operation.
