State police were informed by Stratford police at around 3:40 a.m. that they were in pursuit of a stolen Jeep on I-95 north near exit 34 in Milford, police said. Stratford officers called off their pursuit at around exit 36, and troopers saw the Jeep near exit 37 and tried to pull it over. The Jeep took off and engaged troopers in a high speed pursuit, which was broken off near exit 42 in West Haven, police said.

The Jeep was seen getting off the highway at exit 43, and when police arrived, they found it had crashed into a guard rail, according to police. Five juvenile males were seen fleeing on foot, and West Haven police were called in and set up a perimeter, police said. Milford police also sent in officers and a K-9 unit.

All five juveniles were eventually found and taken into custody. All five were between the ages of 13 and 17 and were from New Haven, police said. They were evaluated at Yale New Haven Hospital for minor injuries sustained in the crash, and were all charged with interfering with police and third-degree larceny.

The driver of the Jeep was also charged with engaging police in pursuit, reckless driving, evading the scene of an accident and second-degree reckless endangerment. All five teens will appear in court on Monday, Aug. 28.
