Joseph Forte, 30, of College Park Drive, was charged with evading responsibility with serious physical injury, operating while under the influence of drugs or alcohol and following too close, police said.

Around 11 p.m. on June 25, a 63-year-old Massachusetts woman who was traveling through town on I-95 took the wrong lane at the rest stop near Round Hill Road.

She was trying to navigate local roads back up to the highway near Barlow Road when Forte’s Honda Accord slammed into the rear of her Lexus RX330, spinning it 180 degrees and flipping it on its roof, police said.

Forte’s car continued down Round Hill Road about 350 feet, coming to rest near Papermill Lane, police said.

Both Forte and the other driver, who had a concussion, were taken to St. Vincent’s Medical Center for treatment. Medical records showed Forte’s blood-alcohol level was .14, above the legal limit of .08, police said.

Forte has been arrested in Fairfield for DUI in September 2010 and December 2008, police said.

He was held on $100,000 bond and was taken to court Monday, police said.
