The chimney fire was reported at 9:30 p.m. Saturday, March 28, at 199 Toilsome Hill Road, said Assistant Fire Chief George Gomola.

Lt. Frank Eannotti was the first fire officer on the scene and reported smoke and fire was coming from the home's chimney. Firefighters used the aerial device on Ladder 2 to access the roof and extinguish the fire in the chimney, Gomola said.

The fire was deemed under control at 9: 45 p.m.  No injuries were reported.

Salvage covers were placed around the hearth to protect the wood floors and interior furnishings, he said.

"Careful coordination of interior and exterior firefighting operations resulted in the safe extinguishment of the fire in the chimney and prevented any damage to the interior of the home,"  Gomola said.

Firefighters used thermal imaging cameras to insure that the fire had not extended beyond the chimney.

Fairfield Engines 1, 2,3,4,5, L1, L2 and C-3 responded. The last fire unit left the scene at about 10:30 p.m.
