At 1 a.m., officers saw a black BMW 528i traveling north on Querida Street in Fairfield without a front registration plate, police said. The plate on the back was not registered to the car, and officers discovered the car was not registered, police said.

The driver, identified as Daniel Ferreira, 43, of Main Street, Bridgeport, had a ban open beer bottle in between his legs, police said.

He admitted to drinking and driving without a registration and insurance, police said. While checking Ferreira, officers found a folding knife and a baggy containing a white powdery substance in his pants pocket, police said.

A large amount of cash and multiple bags of pills identified as oxycodone were also discovered, police said. The pills were found within a cigarette box inside a hidden compartment within the car's dashboard, police said.

Ferreira was charged with three counts of possession of narcotics, and one count each of possession of narcotics with intent to sell, drinking while operating a motor vehicle, failure to display a front plate, misuse of plates, operating an unregistered motor vehicle, and operating a motor vehicle without insurance. He was also issued a misdemeanor summons on motor vehicle and drinking charges. His car was towed.

He was released after posting $250 cash bond and is scheduled to appear June 1 at state Superior Court in Bridgeport.
