The two killed -- 18-year-old Shalymar Herrera of West Haven and 23-year-old Briana Torres-Carter of Bridgeport, who was pregnant --were passengers in a Mini Cooper that was being driven by Herrera's husband, Lawrence Carter, 19, of Bridgeport.

Carter and another passenger Jessie Abrams, 19, of Bridgeport, were seriously injured in the crash.

Carter surrendered himself to the Shelton Police after an arrest warrant was issued, said Shelton Police Det. Christopher Nugent. Carter was charged with two counts of manslaughter in the first degree, two counts of negligent homicide with a motor vehicle, four counts of assault in the first degree, and Illegal racing on a highway.

Carter posted a $50,000.00 court set bond and is scheduled to appear in Derby Superior Court on July 9.

The Mini Cooper was traveling southbound when it collided with a Saturn traveling northbound that had pulled onto the shoulder to avoid Yuldoshev's Toyota Camry that was racing with another vehicle, Nugent added.
