Police said Officer Omar Jimenez, 33, of Fairfield Avenue, Bridgeport, got into a physical altercation with the victim, a friend, around 7 a.m. at Fairfield Circle Inn, the Post Road motor inn where the victim was staying. Jimenez punched the man in the eye and then got into a car driven by a woman, police said.

The woman drove Jimenez back to his car parked at a Black Rock restaurant just over the Bridgeport border, police said.

Police believe Jimenez drove the car into a fire hydrant near the corner of Fairfield and Courtland Avenues, just outside the restaurant. A witness, later identified as Westport Police Chief Foti Koskinas, followed the Toyota Camry and alerted police to the accident, according to a Bridgeport report.

Bridgeport and Fairfield police converged on the car at the motor inn, police said. When Jimenez failed field sobriety tests, he was placed under arrest, the Bridgeport report states.

While handcuffed in a police cruiser, Jimenez complained of chest pain and shortness of breath, police said. He was treated and released from Bridgeport Hospital and was placed in custody.

The victim was also treated and released from Bridgeport Hospital.

Jimenez faces a host of charges in both Bridgeport and Fairfield.

In Fairfield, he was charged with second-degree assault, threatening and disorderly conduct, police said. He posted $2,500 bond and is expected in court on Sept. 19, police said.

In Bridgeport, Jimenez was charged with driving while impaired, evading responsibility and failure to drive right, police said. He was released on a promise to appear in court on Sept. 19.

Bridgeport Police Chief AJ Perez placed Jimenez on administrative suspension Monday morning.
