BRIDGEPORT, Conn. — Bridgeport police identified the man killed in a shooting late Tuesday as 22-year-old Kyree Kennedy, who was found dead in his car in the middle of the road, according to the Connecticut Post.
Officers responded to a report of shots fired at about 11:30 p.m. and found Kennedy unresponsive in his car on Read Street near Beatrice Street, according to the Post.
People were seen running from the scene toward Stratford Avenue, police told the Post.
According to online court records, Kennedy was arrested Jan. 31 by Stratford police on charges of sale of illegal drugs and engaging police in pursuit. He was due back in court on May 23.
Kennedy's death was Bridgeport's 10th homicide of the year.
The 10 homicides so far in 2017 equals the same number that occurred in all of 2016 in Bridgeport.
It was also the third homicide in the past week in Bridgeport.
On Sunday, a man was stabbed to death by a married couple in their 50s at the Fairbridge Commons housing complex in Bridgeport, police said. They said they acted in self-defense, but police said the incident was part of an ongoing dispute.
Last Tuesday, April 24, the death of a 10-month-old boy found unresponsive at the Greene Homes housing complex was classified as a homicide, police said.
