BRIDGEPORT, Conn. -- A Bridgeport man who pleaded guilty to killing his girlfriend faces 36 years behind bars when he is sentenced in April, according to a report by the Connecticut Post.

Jose Santiago, 38, who pleaded guilty Tuesday, Feb. 23, to manslaughter and assault, fatally shot 24-year-old Kiromy Fontanez and wounded her father in 2014, the Connecticut Post reported.

His case was just about to go to trial, the Connecticut Post story said.
