BRIDGEPORT, Conn. -- A city man was arrested on risk of injury charges after a 2-year-old boy in his care was found wandering the streets, Bridgeport police said Friday.

Rondell Williams, 33, was arrested after the police received a call about the toddler, who was found walking around alone on City View Avenue near Marigold Avenue, police said.

Officers responded to a home on City View Avenue, where they found Williams on the floor, police said. Initially unresponsive, Williams jumped up and began moving around as officers approached him, police said.

Police said the home was dirty and in disarray.

Officers found the 2-year-old boy on City View Avenue, police said. Medics arrived to check on both the child and the suspect, police said.

The child had no injuries and was transported by ambulance to Bridgeport Hospital as a precaution. Williams was highly uncooperative, noticeably slurring his words, and appeared to be under the influence of some type of narcotics, police said.

Williams was arrested and charged with risk of injury, interfering with police and threatening police.

The Connecticut Department of Children and Families was notified of the incident.
