Members of the Bridgeport Fire Department got a chance to test and train on their new roof chainsaws during the process.

Mayor Joe Ganim and Deputy Chief Lance Edwards got into one of the department’s buckets to get an aerial view of the scene at 618 Newfield Ave.

Next, they crossed town to take down another structure at 41 Lee Ave. in the West End.

The new chainsaws allow for vertical ventilation by creating space for smoke and dangerous toxins to escape a burning structure. The machinery allows firefighters to continue search and rescue while extinguishing a blaze.
