BRIDGEPORT, CONN. -- A Bridgeport man has been given 40 years behind bars for the 2011 shooting death of his girlfriend, who friends said was planning to leave him, according to a report on ctpost.com.

Abimael Ramos, a 32-year-old convicted drug dealer, had claimed that his girlfriend, Luz Morales, had been shot dead during a home invasion, the ctpost report said.

Ramos was convicted of first-degree manslaughter with a firearm after a jury determined that his story was a lie, the ctpost said.
