BRIDGEPORT, Conn. -- A one-alarm blaze that broke out on Capital Avenue in Bridgeport in the rear of a multifamily home on Wednesday at 7:55 p.m. is under investigation, fire officials said.
Firefighters were able to get the fire at 1405 Capitol Ave. under control within 20 minutes.
No injuries were reported, but a substantial amount of damage was done to the house, officials said.
Seven adults and two children were displaced because of the fire, officials said.
The American Red Cross responded to help. Five of the displaced adults received funds for immediate needs needs and lodging. The other two adults and two children received funds for immediate needs and lodging, too.
Firefighters performed a search of the house and found no one inside. All occupants were accounted for outside the home.
A total of 31 firefighters, including three engine companies and two ladder companies, were dispatched to the scene. Seven adults and two children have been displaced because of the fire. American Red Cross responded to help those who are displaced.
