BRIDGEPORT, Conn. -- William Vincent "Vinny" Rodgerson, retired executive director of the Redevelopment Agency of the city of Bridgeport, died Dec. 31. He was 99.
He was the husband of Ellen Aubin Rodgerson. Born on Dec. 16, 1916, in Bridgeport, to Daniel and Catherine Rodgerson, he was a lifelong resident of Bridgeport.
He was a graduate of both Bryant University and Brown University in Rhode Island, with degrees in accounting and engineering. He worked as a supervisor for General Electric in the Wire & Cable Division during the war effort.
He was the owner of Wood Avenue Body Shop and Rodgerson Construction Co. as a local home builder. Later, he served as executive director of the Redevelopment Agency of the City of Bridgeport until retiring.
He is survived by his children: Arlene Rodgerson Volpe and partner Tom Gargiulo; William Jr.; James and wife, June; Kenneth; Donald and wife JoAnne; Ronald; Gary; Ellen Rodgerson Nelly and husband, Joe and Alan; his caregiver for over 20 years, Dennis and wife, Sherry; and 33 grandchildren, 53 great-grandchildren, seven great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews; as well as his card and beach friends. Special thanks to granddaughter, Marcella, for her help in caring for him.
In addition to his his wife, he was predeceased by his parents; his son, Mark; and brother, Cliff.
Calling hours are Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. at The Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, 163 Ortega Ave, Bridgeport, on Tuesday, Jan. 5, at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow in Long Hill Burial Grounds, Trumbull.
