Sister Eileen Bent, 85, Bridgeport Resident

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – Sister Eileen Bent (Sister Mary Lidwina), a member of the School Sisters of Notre Dame, died Saturday, Feb. 27 at Lourdes Health Care Center in Wilton. She was 85.

She was born Dec. 31, 1930, in Boston, Mass., the daughter of John and Catherine McGowan Bent.

After professing her vows as a School Sister of Notre Dame in 1951 and taking the name Sister Mary Lidwina, she began teaching at St. Leo School in Baltimore, Md. She also served as principal and teacher in schools in Massachusetts, New York and New Jersey. She moved to Bridgeport in 2004, where she was teacher assistant to special needs children in St. Catherine Academy.

In her retirement, she lived at Villa Notre Dame, Wilton, and moved to the adjacent Lourdes Health Care Center in 2010.

She is survived by her sister, Mary O'Donnell, of West Roxbury, Mass.; and her brother Bob, and his wife, Eleanor, of Falmouth, Mass.

She was predeceased by her brothers, George and John; and her sister, Gertrude Foster.

Visitation is Wednesday, March 2, from 3-7 p.m. at Villa Notre Dame, 345 Belden Hill Road, Wilton, with a Christian wake service at 6 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday,March 3,  at 10 a.m. in the Chapel at Villa Notre Dame. Burial will follow at St. Mary Cemetery at Bethel.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by Bracken-Donovan-Spodnick Funeral Home of Bridgeport.
