BRIDGEPORT, Conn. -- Ralph L. McAden, a lifelong resident of Bridgeport, died on Friday, March 4. He was 98.
Born in Bridgeport, McAden was educated in the Bridgeport public school system and received an associate's degree in accounting from Housatonic Community College. He was a retired accountant from the Bridgeport Brass, with over 30 years of service.
He attended Walter's Memorial A.M.E. Zion Church, where he served as a senior usher, Sunday School teacher, president of the Retired Men's Fellowship, member of the Building Fund Committee, National Federation of Bible Classes, announcement clerk and church historian.
McAden is survived by his son, Ralph McAden Jr. of New York; daughters Judythe Jackson and Jeanne Preston of Bridgeport; sister Joan Moreland of New Jersey; son-in-law Charles Harrison of Ohio; sister-in-law Jamie McAden of Pennsylvania; 13 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends.
He was predeceased by his wife, Margaret Williams McAden, and his parents, Henry and Carrie Sunders McAden.
Visiting hours will be from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, March 10, at Messiah Baptist Church, 210 Congress St., in Bridgeport. A funeral service will follow, at 7 p.m., with Pastor Elvin Clayton officiating. Interment will take place at 10 a.m. on Friday, March 11, at Mt. Grove Cemetery, in Easton. Morton's Mortuary, in Bridgeport, is assisting with arrangements.
